Software updates have been released for all affected Audi vehicles. Owners of these vehicles have been contacted directly as the software updates have become available. Affected owners continue to have the software update completed on their vehicles at their local authorised Audi Service Centre. 

If you have not been contacted, or would like to check if your vehicle is included in the emissions software recall, please use our EA189 VIN tool below.

Audi AG are bound by the German Federal Transport Authority (KBA) and their approval is required for every software release. The KBA have certified that the software meets the standards required under EU law. In New Zealand, every Audi vehicle is manufactured to EU emission specifications, so the New Zealand market is covered by the approvals. The KBA have confirmed that after the software update there is no change to the fuel consumption levels, performance figures or noise emissions of the affected models.

After the modification, based on the information supplied by Audi AG we consider that the vehicles will also fulfil all statutory requirements and the duly applicable emissions standards in New Zealand. 

The software update will take approximately one hour to complete at an authorised Audi dealership. If you require a loan car while this update is completed, the dealership will arrange this at the time of making the appointment for you.

In the meantime, your vehicle is still safe and fit to drive. Between now and the software update, it can continue to be used on the road without any restrictions.

Solution for 2.0 TDI (EA 189): Adaptation of the software

We have developed a software solution for the 2.0 TDI engine type EA 189. An Audi Service employee will update the vehicle software using a diagnosis computer. The software optimisation will improve engine control to ensure the emission limits are met. The adaptation to the vehicle will take approximately half an hour.

Solution for 1.6 TDI (EA 189): Adaptation of hard- and software

For the 1.6 litre engine of the type EA 189 a flow transformer will be used in addition to a software solution. Its grid stabilises the flow upstream of the mass air flow meter, thus making a more precise measuring result possible. This way, the quantity of fuel injected is more precise and the combustion process optimised. This solution is being combined with a matching software optimisation and enhanced engine control to ensure the emission limits are met. The adaptation to the vehicle will take approximately 45 minutes.

The implementation: Free of charge and straightforward

All vehicles affected will be recalled to dealerships successively to have the necessary technical solution implemented. We will contact the owners once scheduling for their vehicle has been finalised.
