The latest generation of the Audi Space Frame® (ASF) lowers the overall weight of the Audi R8 Spyder 5.2 FSI quattro. Carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) has also been employed, namely in the side sections and bodywork, as well as in the hood compartment cover and the interior. In practice, this means high levels of safety, enhanced performance and improved handling.

The exterior: powerful, muscular and striking
The Audi R8 Spyder 5.2 FSI quattro echoes the design idiom of classic race cars. The tail looks powerful and muscular, both with the hood up and down. The striking front end of the Audi R8 Spyder 5.2 FSI quattro likewise radiates an aura of sporty dominance. A steeply raked front windscreen frame made from aluminium further emphasises the dynamic lines while giving the vehicle an even more athletic appearance. The single-frame grille with vertical and horizontal chrome bars instantly conveys the vehicle’s sense of irrepressible forwards thrust. Air inlets with long, moulded lines: when viewed in profile there is an electrifying air about the Audi R8 Spyder 5.2 FSI quattro. The headlights in full-LED technology form a further visual highlight. The first of their kind in the sports car segment, the lighting conditions they produce resemble daylight.

The hood: classic and fully automatic
It is the genuine soft-top roof which converts a coupé into a spyder. The elongated fin hood lends emphasis to the clearly structured lines of the Audi R8 Spyder 5.2 FSI quattro. It can be opened and closed fully automatically at the touch of a single button – even when moving at speeds between 6 and 50 km/h. It takes just 19 seconds for the Audi R8 Spyder’s hood to fully open. 1.7 m2 of fabric and the longest fins in this class disappear out of sight beneath the striking air outlets. Pure pleasure: with the rear window lowered, the roar of the ten cylinders can be enjoyed even when the hood is closed.

The interior: supremacy in every detail
The interior of the Audi R8 Spyder 5.2 FSI quattro is a picture of sportiness and functionality down to the smallest detail: the heated, electrically retractable rear window doubles as a wind deflector, with an additional wind deflector also being provided as standard. The centre console is raised, simplifying operation of the joystick control for the optional R tronic®. The Bang & Olufsen Sound System guarantees an exceptional listening experience regardless of the hood’s position. A world first: Audi is the first sports car manufacturer to integrate the microphones for the optional mobile phone preparation and Bluetooth interface into the driver and passenger seat belts. Three microphones each for driver and passenger maintain a short speaking distance at all times and significantly enhance voice quality – even with the hood down.
