Driver’s Airbag Recall

Audi has been informed by one of its suppliers that certain driver airbag gas generators supplied by the OEM TAKATA may have been manufactured incorrectly in the period between 1997 and 1999. These are known as NADI generators (non-azide driver inflators) because of the type of propellant used.

Internal tests, which were carried out in response to this information, have shown that, in the event of an accident, the restraint capability of the NADI airbag used in your Audi vehicle cannot always be fully guaranteed, and that the ability of the airbag to protect the occupants could be impaired as a result.

For safety reasons, it is therefore necessary to replace the airbag component in your vehicle. Unfortunately, the original replacement parts are no longer available due to the age of the vehicles affected. Audi AG are currently pressing ahead with the redevelopment of the airbag component. AUDI AG estimate that we will be able to replace the component in the third quarter of 2021.

As soon as the component is available, we will write to you again as the vehicle owner, in order to have the necessary measures carried out on your vehicle as soon as possible.

You can continue using the vehicle without restrictions until then; however please always take special care that the safety belt is used, in order to reduce the risk of injury as far as possible in the event of an accident.
